PIVKey devices have been initialized by the device manufacturer, and are ready to use.
During initialization the PIVKey applet is loaded into the PIVKey device. The Microsoft Minidriver required files are then created as well as the PIV data files. The card ID is generated and written to the card (the card ID is a required Microsoft Minidriver data object that is used to differentiate different cards, and associate the key containers with those cards).
The PIV CHUID (Card Holder Unique Identity) is generated and loaded to the device. By default the CHUID contains the Card ID as the GUID (the PIV GUID is used by windows for the same purpose as the Card ID). The device is now ready to be distributed to the user or company for personalization.
The standard PIVKey is also loaded with a PIVKey certificate from the Taglio PIVKey Certificate Authority.
