PC Locks without Smart Card being removed

Microsoft Windows "Lock on Smart Card Removal"  function monitors the smart card reader for the Smart Card removal event.

If some process or application interferes with the smart card reader driver, or potentially the smart card subsystem, this may be registered as smart card removal event, and lock the PC.

If this happens regularly, especially if it happens at the same time every day, look for an application that runs regularly and interacts with USB drivers. We have had reports that Dell’s ‘SupportAssist’ application causes this behavior.
